Risk factors

 

One must protect himself or herself from these risk factors.

       High blood pressure of 140/90 or higher can damage blood vessels that supply blood to the brain.

 

       Diabetes- People with diabetes are at a greater risk for a stroke.

 

       Smoking- Smoking almost increases the risk of an ischemic stroke. So avoid smoking.

 

       Lack of exercise and stress- Regular physical activity, Like recreational activities, has dual benefits of fitness and reducing stress. Yoga and meditation are also helpful to a certain extent.

 

       Excessive Alcohol use- More than 2 drinks almost raise your blood pressure. This drinking habit can lead to stroke.

 

       Abnormal heart rhythm- If one is having an irregular heartbeat then it is the most powerful heart risk factor for stroke.

So, be aware of these factors and your risk of having a stroke will automatically decrease to a greater extent.
