CELIAC DISEASE AND FOODS TO AVOID

Celiac disease is needed to be understood well because it is a serious problem that one needs to be aware of.

A Celiac disease is an inherited autoimmune disorder that causes a reaction in your body to the protein, gluten. Gluten in your digestive system triggers your immune system to produce antibodies against it. These antibodies damage the lining of your small intestine(mucosa). Damage to the mucosa in your small intestine impairs its ability to absorb nutrients from your food, causing nutritional deficiencies.

How a celiac disease can affect your body?

Celiac disease is also known as celiac sprue, gluten-sensitive enteropathy, or nontropical sprue which are genetic autoimmune illnesses brought on by eating gluten-containing foods. It is caused by gluten, triggering the white blood cells that attack the lining of the small intestine till it reaches the inner membrane. So, when a person who is suffering from celiac disease consumes gluten, their body reacts to the protein causing damage to their villi. And if the villi are damaged, the body reduces its ability to absorb the nutrients from the food.

SERIOUSNESS OF THE CELIAC DISEASE

Damage to your small intestine can have serious consequences. Your small intestine absorbs nutrients from your food through the mucosa. If the mucosa is damaged, it won't be able to absorb nutrients as it should and this will result in a condition called malabsorption. It can lead to malnutrition and to many other conditions that follow from the lack of different nutrients. It can affect the stunted growth and development of the children.

SYMPTOMS OF CELIAC DISEASE

Celiac disease's symptoms vary widely among people, which makes it more difficult to recognize. Some people don't notice any symptoms at all. Some have indigestion and other gastrointestinal symptoms after eating gluten. And some only have vague symptoms of nutritional deficiencies later on, when real damage has been done. And in these people, anemia as a symptom may occur first.
